Central Bureau of Statistics
The CBS office on Bonaire is the central point for data collection and publication of statistics. The analysis and processing of statistical information takes place in the CBS offices in The Hague and Heerlen.
The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) has a special place within the Dutch governmental structure. The independence of the CBS is guaranteed in two ways. On the one hand, the CBS is a so-called Autonomous Government Body (Zelfstandig Bestuurs Orgaan - ZBO), meaning that CBS has its own budget and independently sets up a work program. On the other hand there is the Law on the Central Bureau of Statistics (“Wet op het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek”), the legal basis in which the position of the CBS in the society is established. In the Dutch political system, the Minister of Economic Affairs, however, is still politically responsible for legislation and budget and for maintaining the conditions for an independent and public production of high quality and reliable statistics.
The information published by CBS includes many social aspects, from macro-economic indicators like economic growth and consumer prices to the income situation of individuals and households. Information of the CBS is freely available for anyone who wants it. The CBS guarantees the privacy of individuals and companies.
CBS publishes statistics for the Dutch Caribbean on Statline - CBS’ electronic database - under the theme: Caribbean Netherlands. Within Statline you can construct your own tables and graphs. All in formation in Statline can be downloaded or printed for free.
